Summary: COVID-19 pandemic, a disease started at the end of 2019, by the so called new coronavirus, spread all to the world and forced the countries the adopte drastic measures to stop the contamination of the population. In Brazil, the measures adopted at this time reflected on justice social ordem, especially on the social isolation that brought changes on treating the conflict. On doing social isolation, the courthouses were closed and the presence hearings postpone. On this case the family mediation start to be in the online format, trying to guarantee both parts access to justice. Thus, normative acts were published to regulate the practice of judicial online mediation during the COVID19 pandemic in Brazil and Portugal. In addition, Brazilian scholars have identified existing barriers in carrying out online family mediation, which must be analyzed and overcome, in order for mediation to be productive and effective for the parties involved. In Portugal, it has been shown that there was no drop in family mediation sessions during the COVID19 pandemic period, with mediations being carried out virtually during this period. Thus, despite the challenges faced in the COVID19 pandemic period, family judicial online mediation was the tool to resolve family conflicts, in which the existing barriers to its effectiveness must be overcome.
